As we chose to create our trailer based on human experiments, choosing the right location was important as it played a large part in setting the overall mood. We chose to use dark locations as it set the scene and feeling of our trailer. Location choices also highlight when the scene was set, what the characters are like and what may be about to happen. For example, in a horror film an abandoned house in the rain with dull lighting will create a sinister atmosphere for the audience.
Having a variety of locations create a contrast and can juxtapose one another to make the audience second guess and fill in the missing gaps with their interpretations of what's happened, which keeps their attention and makes the film more interesting to watch. Contrasting locations can also give off different emotions to keep the audience engaged and it keeps the audience in the dark they won't know what to expect from the events that will unfold.
We also need another place where the actual human experiments can take place, this will need to be a sterile room, as the scientist will want to experiment on the person before they die. However the place needs to look like it is in a secret place where not many people go or not many people know about, this keeps the atmosphere of the trailer to be very mysterious and therefore it goes along with the horror genre themes.
From this we decided to use the empty apartment above our schools roof, this is a good place as it seems to be hidden in plain sight, it also doesn't look like it is within the school so it wont give the trailer an overall obviously student feel to it. This will be where the sterile room will be filmed, this works because it is an empty apartment that we could easily make look like what we want without too much hassle, and it also has a weird ominous feel to it which helps with the horror aspect of the trailer.
